About the Song
‘4th Line Kind of Guy’ by Duluth, Minnesota band Fat Earth is a hockey themed song about a goon. The music video was a collaboration with the Minnesota Wilderness Tier II junior ice hockey team, who compete in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), and was shot in their home rink, the Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet, Minnesota.
Lead actor Mark Williams is seen defending his team, drinking from a Stanley Cup, and making pizzas at Sammys Pizza in Duluth, Minnesota.

Mark Williams, Marky (the goon), is actually a good hockey player. He comes from a hockey family. His dad, Butch Williams, played in the NHL in the 70s for the St. Louis Blues, California Golden Seals, and the Edmonton Oilers. And his uncle Tommy ‘the bomber’ Williams played in the 60s-70s for the Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars, Golden Seals, Whalers and the Capitals. He also won a gold medal with team USA in the 1960 Olympics, and in 1981 he was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Butch and Tommy were the first American brothers to play in the NHL.

The band consists of Cory Coffman on vocals and guitar, Eric Busker and Josh Mutchler on guitar, and Jimmy Waller on bass guitar.
Cory recorded the drums on this song. Since Fat Earth didn’t officially have a drummer yet for the filming of this video, they asked Cory’s brother Chris Coffman to pretend to play the drums, who is also cast as the referee.
Josh Mutchler was not available for the filming, but if you look closely you will see a small photo of him in front of the drum kit that says ‘Gone Fishing’.
Both band scenes are shot at the Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet; one scene is in a locker room bathroom and the other in the stands.

The pizza shop scene was filmed in Duluth, Minnesota at Sammy’s Pizza, where Mark used to work.
The ‘pizza drop on the floor’ scene was not planned, that was just Mark in his natural habitat. Actually, all of the pizza shop scenes were improvised. Who knew that Marky was such a genius?! Remember, you saw him here first!
The old-time sounding radio broadcast of a hockey game in the pizza shop is actually Cory’s incredible voice acting.
